Title: RK3399 teething problems
I have some questions and initial feedback.  On the whole the Firefly RK3399 system looks good, both physically and in terms of function.  It boots fine, and runs smoothly.

The fan is loud, and seems to immediately come on at full speed.  Is there a way of setting it so that it only spins as fast as needed?

I had no luck using my M.2 drive.  Is anything needed in this version of the kernel to enable it?  Gparted doesn't see it, and I'd like to know if there's anything needed to proceed before checking to see if it's something wrong with the drive.

The amount of eMMC memory available to Linux is disappointing.  I have no use for Android.  Is there a way to nondestructively resize the partitions to use them rest under Linux, or do I need to install it again?  I can't work out the boot loader, and Parted is confused

I'd appreciate any help with these issues.

Q1: Unfortunately I cannot read this, and the translation tools do not help.  The pictures make it look messy, so I presume that this no way to do this without hardware modifications?
Q2: Thanks for the information.
Q3: Yes, I understand that, but this is not what I asked.  I'll try to ask it in another way: Will I need to back up my current installation of Linux before installing the firmware and then re-install it?  Or will the firmware migrate my ~4 GB Linux root to a larger fraction of the available space?

And further to Q2.  The device you suggest looks like it does not easily fit inside the case area.  Would the device below work?

Thanks again for your responses!
Re Q1 again, do you have any experience with passive cooling performance (heatsinks)?  I don't mind a slight performance hit.  I was contemplating something like this - http://ameridroid.com/products/heat-sink - but I am happy to see other recommendations.

Q3. I am struggling to follow the instructions for flashing the system here:

http://wiki.t-firefly.com/index.php/Firefly-RK3399/Flash_image/en

I get a "Download IDB Fail" message on each attempt, including after using the "LowerFormat" suggestion.  Please advise.

Problem solved.  The Linux firmware flasher seems to work fine, once the library issues are sorted.
