Title: Any roadmap to when Firefly RK3368 RK3399 ?
Hello

I was wondering if and when FireFly will deploy models with RockChip RK3399 or RK3368

RK3368 has a PowerVR SGX6110  GPU with native OpenGL !
and is also Octa-core

RK3399 has asymmetric 2+4 cores and lots of nice features but no native OpenGL ....

Hi

There will only be am upgrade to RK3399 I presume.
Because RK3368 with PowerVR GPU is not open source and will cause problems with Linux support.
Mali released free Linux GPU drivers for Firefly RK3288 but Imagination Technologies(PowerVR) want several thousand, I estimate $50000-$100000 before they will even try to create a Linux driver for RK3368 as I heard from other companies.
RK3399 will be almost twice the performance of RK3368, so it is no use supporting a slower device when the flagship RK3399 device will be much faster and work with Mali GPU drivers that are much better supported.

with regard to RK3368 :
the official Linux driver is provided as binary
a group of volunteers has built the line driver for PowerVR
Rogue Embedded Systems DDK for Linux kernel.

I think it's only for Android kernel not Linux.
Otherwise lots of people would have build Linux firmware with PowerVR support for Geekbox.
The binary blob drivers are only for Android and there is also no X11 support on RK3368 for PowerVR 6110.

IĄŻd be very happy if Firefly provides an RK3399 board. The RK3399 contains 2 A72 and 4 A53 cores. The Cortex-A72 is currently the most powerful ARM core, it compares with Intel Core-M. I hope that weĄŻll have a linux kernel capable of managing this heterogenous configuration and schedule all the six cores at the same time if needed.

I have received confirmation that it is indeed for the Linux Kernel !!!

IĄŻve got it, thx.

Is there a git repo for the RK3399 linux kernel somewhere?
Thx
