Few days back I come to know about the Firefly boards and I'm very excited to use it in all my future IoT related projects. So I have selected RK3288 and RK3399 based board. Right now I'm using RaspberryPI board for my projects and I use Python and Nodejs for our app development.
In next my project I'm going to do the following things:
1. Collect data from different sensor at remote location and send it to the server via wifi/4g.
- Here I want to use any Linux OS which would be without GUI(desktop) and boot very fast ?
2. Collect, process, display data it to the display screen then take some action.
- Here I want Linux OS with GUI(desktop) ?
3. Also in some project I need YOCTO and QT.
Friends I need your suggestion for the above three scenario?

Hi:
Do you need to use different hardware platforms in scenarios 1 and 2?
1. Both RK3288 and RK3399 are ok for this scenario. but you need to care about the interface and number of your sensors.
2. Both RK3288 and RK3399 are ok , use ubuntu or buildroot+Qt or Yocto+Qt.
3. OKAuthor: codeblooded Time: 12/27/2019 15:51
@penguin: Thanks you so much for your expert advice and prompt reply. I have gone through some videos and screen shoot there I have seen Firefly is using customized ubuntu and also have Desktop GUI.
Is there any version where Desktop GUI is not available?
And what is the boot time for both the boards using Ubuntu v18?Author: samtate462 Time: 1/9/2026 08:24
