Current Ubuntu status for Firefly RK3288

We are planning to release a commercial product based on the amazing Firefly RK3288! This board is perfect but we need full 4K playback support on a linux environment. From what I can read on the forums and Internet, 4K support is complete on Android but not on Ubuntu.

This post says Ubuntu 16.04 was released and included some video and GPU related fixes. My question is, what is the current status for 4K playback on Ubuntu? What are the known bugs and limitations compared to the Android builds? I couldn't find this information anywhere.
