【Linux】 No audio, in either output

I'm trying to get audio output functioning, but neither the headphone jack nor the HDMI output seem to be working with the Ubuntu build. Is there something I need to do special, here?

The output device needs to be selected in the system settings. Or use the latest v1.0.1b firmware, which already supports joint sound card output

Is there a way to "update the firmware" without overwriting the entire OS? I'm quite adept at apt update/apt upgrade, but I'm guessing that doesn't work...

Try this version of Armbian (you can choose Ubuntu or Debian) with XFCE or server, they work with HDMI and analog audio. The launch is very simple - download, unpack and burn to an SD card, connect to the device and turn on the power. If desired (after checking all the functions you need) you can easily install the system on eMMC with the standard armbian-config utility.
