TalkTalk Mail has never been the most reliable platform, and if you've decided to move everything over to Gmail, you're making a sensible call. The problem is there's no direct migration button anywhere. TalkTalk doesn't give you a clean export option, and Gmail's import feature is limited enough that most people hit a wall pretty quickly trying to do this manually.
The IMAP route is what most guides suggest — connecting both accounts and dragging folders across. It works in theory but gets painfully slow with large mailboxes, drops out halfway through without warning, and gives you no real visibility into what transferred and what didn't. If you've got years of emails across multiple folders, that uncertainty is a problem.
A cleaner approach is using the Cigati IMAP Mail Backup Tool. It connects directly to your TalkTalk account via IMAP, pulls everything down, and lets you migrate it across to Gmail without the dropout issues or folder structure losses you get from doing it manually. Attachments come through intact, and the folder hierarchy stays exactly as it was.
If you've been putting this migration off because it seemed complicated, this makes the whole process considerably more straightforward.
