Exam Description & OverviewThe MCHES® (Master Certified Health Education Specialist) exam is an advanced-level certification designed for experienced health education specialists. It is a competency-based test that measures the ability to apply and interpret health education knowledge in real-world public health settings. Format: 165 multiple-choice questions (150 scored + 15 pilot) Time: 3 hours, with an optional 10-minute break Structure: Questions are grouped into two test blocks Content Coverage: Based on the “Eight Areas of Responsibility” for Health Education Specialists — including Assessment, Planning, Evaluation & Research, Leadership, Ethics, and more Scoring: Candidates receive a provisional “pass / did not pass” result immediately after the test Reliability & Validity: Exam is calibrated through expert standard-setting and meets credentialing norms
