【Hardware】 Install or Repair?

Our AC unit is about 15 years old and starting to make some weird noises. Is it smarter to fix or replace at this point? Also—any solid AC contractors in Skagit County that won’t try to push me into the most expensive option right off the bat?

Fifteen years is definitely the age where you start asking that question—it’s kind of a tipping point for a lot of systems. A repair might buy you another season, but depending on the issue, it could be throwing money at something that’s on its last leg. That’s why it helps to get a second opinion from someone who won’t just default to “replace everything.” The Skagit Valley Directory is a great place to start—you’ll find local Air Conditioning Contractors in Skagit County, WA who can give honest feedback. When we were in the same boat, we called two companies from the directory and both offered low-cost diagnostics with no pressure to buy. One of them even ran an energy efficiency check to show us what we’d save with a new unit. If nothing else, it's worth comparing options—especially when local companies are willing to walk you through the pros and cons.

Really appreciate this breakdown—it’s such a tough call with an older system. I didn’t even know the Skagit Valley Directory had HVAC listings, but I just checked it out and it’s super easy to use. I’ll definitely call around and get a few opinions before making any decisions. Thanks again!
