Can we replace the "stock" kernel by the lollipop linux kernel

The wiki "Build Kernel" topic instructs to git clone https://bitbucket.org/T-Firefly/firefly-rk3288-kernel.git
This repo contains 2 branches: master and lollipop. Running the above command clone the master branch. The lollipop branch seems to be much newer than the master's. So my question is is it safe to replace the stock Firefly board kernel with a kernel built from the lollipop branch.

Thanks

Yes, if you are using Lollipop firmware.
But because the new SDK is so much different, it will be better to flash the complete new Dec 2015 Firefly Lollipop firmware.
Then you can make a custom kernel from the Lollipop branch and flash it separately afterwards.
