LiPo Battery Requirements

What are the requirements other than the connector for the battery?

I ordered a 3000mAh 30C battery but it burned up one of the capacitors/resistors (and maybe other damage) on one of my mezzanines.

The board supports dual 7.4V lithium battery, as shown in the picture below.
