Title: Stuck on android recovery mode
Hey,

I used flashed Android using the SD card flash image supplied by FireFly, Now I am trying to flash using the usb cable following the steps in the wiki but when i hit recovery sequence on the board it gets stuck on "Android system recovery" on screen asking me to make a selection of either
1) reboot system now
2) Apply update from ADB
3) apply update from external storage
4) update rkimage from external storage
5) apply update from cache
6) wipe data/factory reset
7) wipe cache partition
8) recovery system from backup

It says i need to use volume buttons to move highlight ( The board did not come with remote and It will take a couple of weeks to get them shipped) and power button to make a selection.

My question

1) Is there any keyboard or mouse mapping of the volume button on remote ?
2) Which option do I select from the above so the board is detected in the windows program "AndroidTool v2.33". Currently it says "No Device found"
3) Is there a way to generate a SD card image from the files built from Android source ?

Really appreciate any help here!

I'm afraid there are no keys or buttons map to volume up/down currently. There's hardly a need to enter the interactive recovery mode.

You should plug out the SD card before using USB upgrade. The SD card with upgrade firmware has impact on the upgrade process.

What SD card image would you like to generate, one to upgrade the firmware on the eMMC, or one that can directly boot into system?

@busybee, what if anyone need recovery mode ?

I work on product that requires to provide recovery to user, how I can test this feature without expose volume buttons ?

Let me know how I can workaround this issue. I would like to use eMMC as a storage for system.

Ok, I figured out that despite there is no cursor mouse emulate volume up/down to move highlight.

But there is no backup image when trying
  1. recovery system from backup
Copy the code
. I'm getting:

  1. E:Can't find /backup
Copy the code

I see that there is backup image in SDK
  1. firefly-rk3288/RKTools/windows/AndroidTool_Release_v2.3/rockdev/backupimage
Copy the code
. Is there any procedure to create backup image and where I should place this image to make recovery process work as expected ?

Forget about backup images in SDK.
Use "rkflashkit" tools in linux to get an individual backup of each partitions.
  1. e.g:  # rkflashkit backup @system system.img
Copy the code

You also can use this tool to combine all the images along with your parameter file, package file and scripts to make the update.img and also release_update.img file.

Look at rkflashkit GIT readme for doing all of that:
https://github.com/linuxerwang/rkflashkit

You also can use Ansroid Tool in windows to get the individual backup of each partition.
Just need to know the exact offset and size of the partition.
You can get that information from your parameter file.

Have a look at this tools which I have developed and it will be very useful.
