Problem description and steps to reproduce:
Hi guys. I am struggling with my new ivy. Should I water it every day or just once a week. Some leaves are turning brown but the soil feels dry. Is there a simple way to know the exact timing. I do not want to kill another plant this month. Any advice for a beginner.

Stop watering daily. Most plants need a break to breathe. I usually check the top inch of soil with my finger. If it is dry then I pour water until it drains out. Factors like sunlight and room heat change everything so a fixed schedule is risky. Try to observe the leaves for drooping.

That makes sense but I am still nervous about getting it wrong. The temperature in my room fluctuates because of the heater. Does the pot material matter too. I have a small ceramic one and a large plastic one. I wish I had a tool to calculate the needs of each specific container.
