Weird FireFly USB-USB-C cable issues

The recently shipped FireFly rk3399 Plus-R (2018-05-02) comes with a USB to USB-C cable that only seems to work with the Android Tool on a windows host when the board is in recovery mode. Somehow it cannot be used for other purposes when running the android firmware.
Windows will neither detect the storage device or the adb link when using this cable. When using the older USB-Micro to usb-c plugs it does work.
Any ideas ?
